Here's part 2 of my projects for Grungy Monday Challenge #13. If you watch Tim's video on the Ranger site HERE, you'll see that he demos using alcohol inks on glass. I remembered a technique of his that is done to alcohol inked glass where you stamp an image with archival ink and then wipe away the ink which also takes away the alcohol ink leaving a clear image of your stamp. That's exactly what I've done here on 2x2 glass pieces and then sandwiched a white piece of cardstock between the inked glass and another plain piece of glass and then soldered the edges to make it into a charm. Don't look too closely - you'll see that my soldering skills need some more practice, but it was really fun to do! My stamped image is the bud from Rogue Redhead Design's Floriculture set.Here's a close-up of one done using Stream, Denim and Meadow alcohol inks:

ReplyDeletelol! I'm sure your soldering skills are much better than mine, these look awesome! That tech turned out wonderful, sometimes that's a tough one to get to come out clearly.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful Penny and I am sitting here in awe of your soldering. I tried it two years ago and failed miserably. When I purchased the solder the assistant was unable to tell me whether or not it contained Flux - not very helpful! I dream of being able to solder such as this. Any chance of a lesson or two, shall I book my flight now LOL.

These are gorgeous, Penny! I could never quite get that technique of Tim's to work for me. Yours turned out beautifully, and that flower bud is just the perfect thing for this size charm.

ReplyDeleteWow, these are great! I have tried this technique, actually following the step by step from Tim Holtz's posting. I cannot get it to work for me at all. Did you use glass tile as opposed to his "fragments"? I think I read that you did. Every time I go to wipe off the stamped ink, it also wipes off the alcohol ink. I decided to let it dry longer thinking that was the key- but then, the stamped ink would not wipe off. (which ended up looking great- but did not achieve the intended look) I tried wiping, gently blotting- nothing worked. Any suggestions??
